Florida Shark Identification
Blacknose Sharks have a black or dark colored mark on snout tip. They can handle warmer water and like shallow water.
Finetooth Sharks have slender bodies with long gill slits. They tend to like colder water and shallow waters.
Bull Sharks have short snouts and stocky bodies. They are very aggressive and can live in fresh and salt water. They have a second dorsal that is much smaller.
Blacktip Sharks are prevalent in Florida waters. They have narrow snouts and have black color on dorsal, pectoral, anal, and lower caudal fins.
Spinner Sharks can leap out of the water. They swim into bait balls with their mouth open spinning eating fish. They have a black anal fin and black rest of fins and have white bands on the side of its body
Hammerhead Sharks have a unique hammer shape that allows them to see better. They swim with a group during the day and hunt at night alone. They have a white belly.
Nurse Sharks have a broad head with barbels on nose with a long tail. They stay towards to ocean floor to eat their food.
Tiger Sharks have a striped or spotted skin like a tiger and a broad snout. They have sharp saw-edged teeth. Tiger Sharks will eat almost anything. They can reach over 15 feet.
Lemon Sharks have a short broad snout and large second dorsal fin. They are yellowish-brown in color. They can be up to 10 feet long. They are found in mangrove areas, docks, or sandy or coral areas.
